Fun Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Kids with Braces

It’s hard to not be excited about this time of the year! But you might be wondering if there’s anything you can do to brighten your child’s holiday season if they have braces—after all, they might not be able to enjoy their favorite treats because of their braces. However, that doesn’t mean they have to be disappointed with the gifts waiting for them inside their stockings! Here are some braces-friendly stocking stuffer ideas from your Canfield dentist.

1. Electric Toothbrush

Receiving a toothbrush for Christmas might not be the most exciting thing in the world, but this gift is beyond useful—and practical gifts are always a great idea! Electric toothbrushes have been proven to clean teeth more effectively than their manual counterparts, not to mention they’re gentler on the gums! If your child doesn’t have an electric toothbrush yet, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to add one to their stocking.

2. Refillable Water Bottle

Did you know that water isn’t just the best beverage for your body, but also for your oral health? Not to mention, a refillable bottle is more environmentally friendly than plastic water bottles. Drinking water will help your child’s mouth by stimulating their natural flow of saliva, which is crucial in the fight against cavity-causing bacteria. Water also counters bad breath and is a good source of fluoride, which benefits tooth enamel!

3. Metal Straws

Another great way to aid the environment, metal straws don’t just eliminate plastic waste—they also prevent stains on your teeth! While straws won’t completely keep liquids from touching and staining your teeth, they do greatly minimize the amount of contact that occurs.

4. Sugar-Free Candy

If you can’t resist giving your child some of their favorite sweets in their stocking, you should at least try to opt for sugar-free options. Even dark chocolate and low-sugar options and more are all preferrable to things like candy canes, lollipops, and other items high in sugar. Of course, you’ll want to check with your child’s orthodontist if you’re unsure about a certain candy potentially harming their braces.

You don’t need to go with any of the traditional—and sugary—stocking stuffers this holiday season, especially if your child has braces. These alternatives can be just as exciting, while being much healthier for their smile and less harmful to their braces.
